Leeds Tykes

The Yorkshire Regiment Trophy

When Leeds Tykes, Doncaster Knights and Rotherham Titans were in The Championship, the Yorkshire derby games were always tough battles. The 3 teams played for the Yorkshire Regiment Trophy; the winner was the team with most points after all the Yorkshire derby were played.

The competition took a break when the clubs were in different leagues. Last season, with 9 Yorkshire teams in National 2 North the trophy was reinstated. The Royal Yorkshire Regiment were delighted to support the idea, and the new Chair of Yorkshire RFU agreed.

Leeds Tykes were the winners of the Yorkshire Regiment Trophy for the 2023/24 season. Even though Rotherham won the league, we won the Yorkshire Regiment Trophy as one of our defeats came against Fylde, a team outside of Yorkshire, so we won the Yorkshire Regiment Trophy league thanks to our bonus points.

The competition continues in 2024/25 with Harrogate RUFC joining the Yorkshire derby battles and 8 teams playing in National 2 North. There are Yorkshire derbies every week of the season which adds plenty of spice to the league’s matches.
