In September 2020, the RFU agreed to the request to change our playing title back to Leeds Tykes; the name we played under during 12 years under the leadership of Phil Davies and Stuart Lancaster.
The name change had been expected ever since director of rugby Phil Davies, who led the Tykes into the Premiership and saw them lift the Powergen Cup at Twickenham, returned to the club in January 2020.
Our long-standing arrangement with Rhinos officially ended. For 25 years we shared the Leeds Rugby Academy facilities at Kirkstall with the Super League club and have played home matches at Rhinos’ Headingley Stadium but that ceases.
Covid-19 may have curtailed the 2020/21 RFU season for most NCA Clubs, but local rivals Leeds Tykes, Leeds Beckett University and Hull Ionions joined forces along with Leeds based travel company, Ventur, to organised their own tournament.
During May and June 2021 the clubs played each other at home and away for the top two teams to content in the final. On Saturday 19 June the final was played at Headingley Stadium. for a £10,000 prize fund with the top two teams playing for the Ventur Cup.
The Tykes were crowned Ventur Cup Champions after pulsating final against Leeds Beckett, running out 24 -20 winners.
2021/23 season
The Tykes found their first season in National League 1 hard-going. They finished 13th out of 15 in the table, after a good run of results at the end of the season that saw them escape relegation.
2022/23 season
The Tykes came 13th out of 14 in the table and were relegated to National League 2 North.
