Mike Aspinall has joined Leeds Tykes as Attack Coach. Mike, who played for Leeds Tykes between 2006 and 2008 was Assistant Backs Coach as part of Andy Key’s coaching team. He was also Assistant Coach under Diccon Edwards.
Mike started his coaching career while playing for Harrogate. He became Head Coach/Director of Rugby at Harrogate working with Rob Rawlinson who was scrum coach.
In this video, Mike tells us about his role, experience, what it’s like to be back, and how he wants our supporters to enjoy what they see on the pitch.
Rob Rawlinson, Forwards Coach, who also played in the same Tykes team as Mike said: “Mike is a passionate coach who is obsessive about the small detail. He has great experience in coaching and will only add to positives to this group of players.
“Being a scrum half, Mike will work extremely closely with the half-backs. This is an area where, I think, we will see huge development with guidance. Mike’s remit will focus around sharpening our attack and I am looking forward to working with him again in a Tykes shirt.”
Commenting on Mike joining the coaching team, Director of Rugby, Pete Seabourne explained: “I have long been an admirer of Mike, firstly as a player and secondly as a coach. He will bring an invaluable amount of knowledge and experience to the playing group. His attention to detail is second to none. We have similar philosophies when it comes to the attacking side of the game, and I am looking forward to working with him.
Pete added: “I am happy with our coaching team. We all have our individual strengths, which I feel will contribute significantly to the playing group, and we all share the same passion to create a good learning environment for the players to excel.”
“It’s no secret that we need to develop this part of our plan, and we have a top-notch individual to take it, and us, forward.”
